Art and Architecture award
This was the final award made within the Project scheme initiated by Public Art South-West, Arts and Business and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.
The scheme provided funding and support to enable the appointment of an artist to the architectural design-team of significant developments. The CB1 development was unusual in scale and impact. A privately funded development, which incorporated the refurbishment of Cambridge's listed railway station, the establishment of a major public square, a new park and extensive student and social housing.
The development's ambition, context and partners provided real scope to explore new precedents for cultural investment and considered collaborative approaches to urban design.
