Artist-curators Jacques Nimki and Stephanie Douet presented an exhibition to mark the launch of their new alternative art school, ‘The Art Practitioner’ (TAP), on Saturday, 24th November.  Twenty regional and national artists showcased painting, sculpture, installation and photography in a dramatically derelict setting, highlighting the diverse skills and accomplishments the new school will offer its chosen students.

Jacques Nimki, a full-time practising artist based in London and Norfolk, studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools.  He works from and within the urban landscape, exploring how we perceive ourselves and others in specific environments using mainly weeds and flowers. His studio and project-based work, along with site-conditioned installations, seek beauty in the overlooked and unconsidered. These interventions include natural settings, drawing installations, meadows within buildings, culinary productions and both observational drawings and paintings.  His work is held in the Arts Council of England collection and numerous public and private collections worldwide.

Stephanie Douet holds a BA Hons in Art History from the University of East Anglia and an MA in Fine Art from the Norwich Institute of Art & Design (NUA).  She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally and curated the Queen of Hungary artist-led space from 2001 to 2004.  Her extensive curatorial work includes over 75 exhibitions featuring 150+ artists.  Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Roar like a Paintbrush’ at Udaipur City Palace, India, and ‘Real/Non-Real’ at Modern Art Oxford Project Space.  Group shows include ‘Sinopticon’ at Plymouth Museum and the V&A Museum, ‘OPEM7’ at The Collection, Lincoln and ‘Summer Salon’ at Islington Arts Factory, London.

David's works, OnSilent and The Wall, were shown within the exhibition, The Art Practitioner.
