Wunderkammern : Camere delle Meraviglie

Wunderkammern : Camere delle Meraviglie

Venue: Danielle Arnaud Gallery, Venice
Curators: Danielle Arnaud Contemporary Art
Date: 17th May 2023 -

Artist David Cotterrell proposed a series of seemingly impossible assemblages of artefacts, vignettes, and insects in conjunction with the year’s Architectural Biennale. These works question the appropriation of culture and the trade in knowledge and power. Employing three auto-stereoscopic screens and projectors, Cotterrell presented his latest experiments in holographic illusion and shadow projection, envisioning the virtual repatriation of artefacts.

This presentation, which drew upon the historical and mythological narratives of Venice, formed part of an ongoing programme of independent projects in Venice undertaken by gallery artists.

David Cotterrell explored the social and political tendencies of a world that simultaneously shares and divides. His work, characterised by an interest in intersections, whether fleeting encounters or meticulously orchestrated events, delved into the human condition and the nuances that can lead to a less ambiguous perception of the world.

Cotterrell collaborated on projects that encompass the quiet spaces that serve as the sites for action, embracing the roles of programmer, producer, and director. The future implications of these projects remain uncertain.
