Bide

Bide

Venue: River Don, Sheffield
Curators: Amy Carter Gordon
Date: 13th March 2024 -

BIDE, a visual representation of the vulnerability of the river, depicted a boat that floods and bails itself out in response to live data inputs, such as rainfall from the river. Visitors of all ages can participate in a live citizen laboratory, where they can learn about microbiology and chemistry by testing samples from Sheffield’s rivers using cutting-edge equipment from the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre. This research helps us understand the health of our rivers.

This exhibition is part of a wider collaboration between Sheffield Hallam University and the River Dôn Project. The Project aims to reconsider our relationship with the environment through art projects, citizen science, technological tools, and public engagement. It explores the future rights of nature in South Yorkshire and seeks to demonstrate how we can perceive and understand the complex ecosystems and relationships within our water catchments.

The River Dôn Project will launch its engagement platform at the exhibition. This interactive digital interface aims to make our complex relationships with nature more visible and understandable.
