Member of design team for major development in Cambridge.
This consultancy funded through a CABE/PASW/A&B Project Award supported an integral role within the design team of a significant development program in Cambridge.
As a component of the work, David authored and directing the early implementation of a multi-million strategic investment in contemporary art in the Cambridge area. The consultant lead artist position facilitated a strong collaborative role in a £1 billion influential architectural and urban design project, with the architects Richard Rogers Partnership and Chetwood Partners.
Through the design process, budgets for an editorially independent programme of temporary, process-based, interrogative and critical art practice within the public realm were secured. The initial investment was been augmented by collaborative partnerships with 18 local, regional and national agencies and organisations. An ongoing curated programme of research residencies, symposia, publications, major commissions and temporary projects have been approved and a mandate to develop an integral, recursive and critical relationship between fine art practice and the development process over a period of seven years has been established.
The project proposed a framework to develop a lasting and dynamic precedent for public art experimentation and development within a transitional context. The proposals integrated within the successful planning application are downloadable here.
